Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI)

Following several lessons learned during Operations abroad, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) initiated a project to replace six Legacy Supply Chain Information Systems (IS) used throughout Defence within the deployed environment. The project was known as the Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI). This project required the migration of multiple millions of data records to a new solution for which the Project lacked the experience and expertise to successfully manage the Data Migration workstream.

Engage staff, using their extensive knowledge and experience of the Defence Supply Chain and the applications used within, delivered the data migration workstream by:

  • Investigating what data was required from the systems being replaced and those systems which will be interacted with
  • Putting in place data cleansing processes to ensure data migrated with the correct content in the correct format
  • Developing data migration scripts, detailing from which systems and where within those systems data was coming from and where it will be migrated to in the future solution
  • Designing and producing data reports, listing data exceptions and amendments for auditable purposes
  • Creating supporting documentation, such as the List of Value, containing business data attributes and the valid values allowed within them
The migration and subsequent creation of more than 1,100 supply chain accounts worldwide, migrating more than 5 million data records in a cleansed state. The creation of the only complete set of supply chain reference data in Defence was delivered as part of the migration process, with more than 2 million cleansed records created detailing various catalogue and address data elements for business use.

Engage employs the only team of recognised Defence Logistic IS specialist, particularly in the field of supply chain data. This is based on the technical and business knowledge the team has within the Logistic sphere of Defence, which totals more than 40 years.

These data skills are transferable to any other areas of business, as the ability to analyse data for purposes such as migration is common throughout.

  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
